Discover Riva del Garda
Riva del Garda is different to all the other places on Lake Garda. Surrounded by mountain chains which protect it from the cold winds, it enjoys a mild climate all year long, allowing olive trees, vines and Mediterranean vegetation to flourish.
In the summer a guided tour is organized on Saturdays to discover the most enchanting areas of the historic city centre which is bursting with refined palaces:
The Rocca, an ancient fortress, is now home to the Museo Civico, with works by Francesco Hayez exhibited in its gallery.
From the town wall (cinta murata) three gates, Porta di San Marco, Porta di S.Michele and Porta bruciata (burned gate), lead through to the old square Piazza S.Rocco which extends to the medieval district Rione Marocco, with its beautiful wash-tub.
The tower Torre Apponale, dating back to 1200, is 34 m high and overlooks the main square (Piazza del Comune) and the old port. Climbing up its165 steps you can reach the top of the tower and admire its copper angel, the symbol of Riva del Garda.
The Inviolata baroque church with octagonal layout, one of the most beautiful in Trentino, is rich in stucco works and has a magnificent wooden choir.
The square, Piazza delle Erbe, the massive electric power plant, the beach, Spiaggia degli Olivi, creations by the Lake architect, Giancarlo Maroni, friend of the poet Gabriele d?Annunzio, for whom he designed the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera.
