Two large sculptures
by Jacopo Foggini, a jellyfish and a dancer, light up the lobby of Feeling Hotel Luise.
Jacopo Foggini was born in Turin and grew up in Milan, where he currently lives and works.
While working in his family's plastics firms, Foggini discovers at a young age the versatily of methacrylite, on industrial material normallly used to make automobile rear lights.
Fascinated by the extraordinary chromatic qualities of this material, which is similar to glass, but considerably lighter, he began to experiment this thermoplastic resin at the beginning of the 1990s. In his atelier, using a machin of his own invention, he heats the methacrylite to 200 degrees Celsius, producing a filament which he the mould by hand to create luminous shapes and monumental works of art-threads mazes in an elegant mix of colours.
After his debut, an exhibition held in 1997 at Romeo Gigli's showroom, Foggini's creative path was marked by the opening of his own gallery, the pubblication of a book devoted to his artwork and the inclusion of his lighting sculpture in the permanent collection of important institutions, such as the Haus der Musik in Vienna, the Montreal Museum of Decorative Arts, The Gandhi Museum in New Dehli, Carrousel du Louvre, the Centre George Pompidou e l'Atelier Richelieu in Paris, the Royal College of Art e Sotheby's in London.
