A dive into futurism
Just 20 km from Riva del Garda lies Rovereto, a town of culture and Futurism. In the Twenties, thanks to the talented artist Fortunato Depero, became the workshop for the "Futuristic reconstruction of the universe".
Pioneer of contemporary design and advertising graphics, Depero's advertizing campaigns for Bitter and Cordial Campari made history. He donated to the town 3,000 works of art -paintings, drawings, marquetry engravings in cloth and in buxus, collages, posters, playbills, furniture, toys and products of applied art.
These art pieces are being in Casa del Mago (the magician's house) and in the modern and contemporary art museum of Trento and Rovereto "the Mart".
The Mart is an architectonic masterpiece by Mario Botta; with a massive dome, it is enclosed in eighteenth century palaces and hosts more than 10,000 art works from the main Italian and international movements in the twentieth century.
Rovereto is also the town of peace. On the hill Colle Miravalle stands the worlds largest bell, Maria Dolens, dedicated to the war dead. It was moulded from the smelted canons, relics from the 19 countries caught up in the First World War.
Two prestigious international events are held in Rovereto every year: at the beginning of September Orienteoccidente (eastwest), dedicated to contemporary dance, and at the beginning of October the International Festival W.A. Mozart.
